Reactive Rover Foundations (Workshop+Class)
Reactive Rover: Foundations class teaches you the skills to help your dog become less reactive towards other dogs on leash. Once you have these skills, our continuing Reactive Rover program offers you ongoing support to keep you and your dog learning and improving.

Class in Two Parts

After you have registered and paid (see link above) for the class package, you will need to select both a Handler Workshop and a Dog Class (six weekly sessions) from the class sessions available.

The Handler Workshop is a two-hour long session where we will be teaching you how to improve your training and observation skills to improve your dog's success in class. The Dog Class is six weeks of class, where you will be working on improving your dog's behavior around other dogs. Make sure to select a Handler Workshop that takes place before the Dog Class you plan to attend.

Filling out our reactivity questionnaire

To make sure that our Reactive Rover: Foundations class is a good fit for your dog's behavioral needs, we ask that you answer some Reactivity History questions about your dog. After we have a chance to review the information, we will verify your dog's suitability for class. Unless we contact you to recommend one of our other services to help you and your dog succeed, you may assume that you have been approved for class.

Refund of transfer of class fee if alternative recommended

Should it turn out that your dog is not suitable (at this point) for class, we will contact you to let you know if some other service that we offer might be more appropriate. At that point, we will be happy to offer you a full refund of your class fee or you can alternately choose to apply it to one of the services we recommend for you.

Training equipment for class

When you attend class with your dog, we want you to be as successful as possible. First we want to make sure that you have good physical control over your dog and (without any struggle) are able to move them away from a situation where they are reacting. Second, we want to make sure that we prevent any negative associations that can form with collar pressure either through choking or other pain-inducing equipment. Because of this, we will want you to handle your dog in either a front-clip harness or head-halter in class. Please contact us if you have any questions.

First day of class policy

Since there are many important topics covered in the Handler Workshop, including fundamentals of marker-based training, effective management techniques, and the foundation exercises for class, all Reactive Rover students are required to attend the Handler Workshop.

Missed classes, refunds and transfers

Once you have paid for the class, we can only offer a refund or transfer if we receive notice at least seven (7) days in advance of the class start date. Once you have paid your registration fee, please understand that a refund will not be given if you do not notify us at least seven (7) days in advance of the class start date.

Since class enrollment is limited, no refunds will be given if you miss class sessions, do not attend class or if you register for class less than seven (7) days prior to the start date and your plans change. Make sure that your schedule is clear prior to signing up.

If you request to transfer to an alternate class start date seven (7) or more days before the start date of class, you will be allowed to transfer one time only at no extra charge. As mentioned before, no class transfers of fee refunds will be allowed less than one week prior to the class start date.

If you miss more than two weeks of class (excepting the first week for those who are taking the class a second time) you will be ineligible to move on to the next levels of Reactive Rover class until you have successfully completed the class a second time.

Reserved spot policy

Note that your class fee is a guarantee of your spot in the class you've registered for. If you have to miss a class for any reason, please bear in mind that we usually do not offer refunds or non-paid make-up sessions for missed classes. If you miss a class, it is possible to schedule a private consultation to cover the materials from class. Please contact us at 503-336-1202 should this need arise.
